Micky Yoochun and Han Ji-min's first script reading

SBS drama "The Rooftop Prince" had its first script reading.

The entire crew of "The Rooftop Prince" gathered at the SBS Ilsan Production Center and had their first camera tests and script reading. There was a newsbreak about the intense cold outside but the room was hot with the passion of the crew.

Micky Yoochun, Han Ji-min, Jeong Yoo-mi and Lee Tae-seong stood out perfectly in the camera test prior to the reading and the three handsome men who fly into the 21st century from the Chosun times -- Jeong Seok-won, Lee Min-ho-I and Choi Woo-sik -- looked like they were going to make a few women cry.

Director Sin Yoon-seob, writer Lee Hee-myeong and the crew met during the reading that took place in the later evening and applauded the beginning of the drama's filming. Chairman Park Jong from SBS Plus and Kim Yeong-seob, General Manager of the SBS Drama Department, attended the script reading and showed their anticipation.

It is said that although it was just a reading, all the cast did their best as if it was the real scene.

"The Rooftop Prince" is about a prince from the Chosun times traveling into 2012 Seoul in search of a lost romance and will broadcast its first episode in mid-March.

Park Ha-seon's graduation picture's

Actress Park Ha-seon's graduation pictures from university have been revealed.

Several pictures titled, "Park Ha-seon's graduation pictures" were posted online on February 3rd.

These pictures are from the Dongguk University Department of Performing Arts. She is wearing a white jacket, looking clean, and is wearing a graduation cap in another picture. She looks very intelligent with the smile on her face.

Those who have seen the picture say, "She looks so calm", "She is so pretty", "I want her as my daughter-in-law" and more.

Park Ha-seon is currently in the MBC daily sitcom "High Kick 3, The Short Legs Counterattack" as a bright and cheerful language teacher.

"The Sun and the Moon" breaks its ratings record again

MBC drama "The Sun and the Moon" is headed right for a 40% share of viewers.

According to AGB Nielsen Media Research on February 3rd, the latest episode of "The Sun and the Moon" rated 37.1%.

This is 2.6% higher than the previous episode on February 1st and is currently its best numbers yet.

The drama put up numbers as high as 18% from the first episode, broke through 20% by the second and then 30% by the fifth. If this rate continues then it will be soon enough that the drama breaks through 40%.

The last drama that recorded a national viewing percentage of over 40% was the 2010 KBS 2TV drama "Bread, Love and Dreams". Prior to that was MBC's "Queen Sundeok" in 2009.

SBS drama "Take Care of Us, Captain" rated 7.5% and KBS 2TV's "Wild Romance" rated 4.5%.

On "The Sun and the Moon" Lee Hwon (Kim Soo-hyeon-I) realized that Wol's (Han Ga-in) handwriting was the same as Yeon-woo's.

CN Blue becomes first K-pop band to perform on MTV Japan's 'Unplugged'

CN Blue has become the first Korean band to appear on MTV Japan's acoustic live-performance program "Unplugged". The band's agency, FNC Music, announced on Wednesday that CN Blue recorded the episode in front of a live audience in Tokyo on Tuesday.

The band sang a total of 12 songs including "Where You Are", which was released in Japan on Tuesday, as well as previous hits "Let's Go Crazy", "Try Again, Smile Again" and "Kimio".

The MTV program is taped in front of a small crowd and prohibits the use of synthesizers in favor of acoustic instruments. CN Blue's performance was attended by just 150 audience members despite some 15,000 fans having applied for tickets.

"We were surprised at how many people wanted to attend the event. We gave it our best to make it the best performance for the fans", the band said after the taping. The program will air in Japan on Feb. 25.

CN Blue made its debut in Japan last year with an album release.

Kim Hyun-joong Sweeps Japanese Charts

Singer Kim Hyun-joong is enjoying huge popularity in Japan since his solo debut there. He had already gained a steady fan base there with boy band SS501 and his part in the hit drama "Boys over Flowers".

Having released his Japanese debut single titled "KISS KISS/Lucky Guy" on Jan. 25, Kim held on to the second place on the Oricon weekly charts by selling over 100,000 copies in the first week. He is being bombarded with requests for appearances on major music programs on NHK, TV Asahi and Fuji TV.

Kim will meet over 20,000 fans to celebrate the release of the album in Yokohama Arena on Sunday.

Soo Ae "Relationship with Jeong Tae-won? Will take legal measures"

Actress Soo Ae's management company revealed their course of action regarding the scandal with chairman Jeong Tae-won of Tae Won Entertainment.

Chairman Jeong Yeong-beom from Star J Entertainment, which Soo Ae is in, told Star News on February 2nd, "The report that said Soo Ae and Jeong Tae-won are in a relationship isn't true. We will take legal measures regarding this".

Chairman Jeong said, "The two have been close since she starred in his drama and they have dinners with other members of the cast or drink wine together very often. We are going to take legal measures given that their picture was taken and used maliciously".

Soo Ae met chairman Jeong Tae-won in 2010 through the drama "ATHENA".

Yoo Seung-ho gets his physical check up for national military service

Actor Yoo Seung-ho talked about his experience going through the physical examination for national military service.

At the press preview for the TV Chosun drama "The Proposal" on the 31st of January, Yoo Seung-ho said, "I thought something would change when I became twenty. But it's just the same. I thought I would be happy but there's nothing that much different".

He continued, "When it comes to acting, now that I am a grown-up I feel scared that I have to take responsibility and do things on my own".

About the physical examination he said, "It was something new. I have to go away for my national service but I will tell you the details later".

Meanwhile, "The Proposal" is based on a popular Japanese drama from 2007 and is a fantasy melodrama about time travel. It will be aired for the first time on February 8th at 8:50PM.

Shin Hyeon-joon is a bride's brother

Actor Shin Hyeon-joon is set to make an appearance on the KBS action drama "Doll Mask".

A representative from the program confirmed yesterday that Shin will guest star as the brother of protagonist Kangto, played by Joo Won, on the show.

"Shin will play Kangsan, who plays a significant role in influencing Kangto as he turns from his pro-Japanese ways into a patriotic superhero", the representative said.

Shin said he is excited about the guest spot. "As a fan of the original comic, I want to do the best job that I can", he said.

The actor also said that he was thrilled to be working with Joo, of whom Shin said he is a fan.

This will be Shin's first appearance in a drama in three years. His last was SBS's "Cain and Abel" in 2009.

"Doll Mask", set to air in May, is based on the comic by famed cartoonist Heo Yeong-man.

The drama is set against the backdrop of Japan's colonial rule of Korea and is based on a heroic figure who wears a kaksital, the mask of the bride character in traditional mask dance dramas, as he seeks justice.

Epani's boyfriend proposes in front of packed audience

Entertainer Epani was in for a surprise when the lights went out during a curtain call for the musical "Let's Go to the Rose Inn" on Jan. 31. The model-turned-singer was bowing to the crowd at Venus Hall in central Seoul when the lights went dark and the romantic song "What a Relief" started playing as the star's boyfriend appeared on stage.

"As a bee is drawn to honey, I am naturally drawn to you. I promise to love you and then love you some more", musical actor Seo Sung-min said as he got down on one knee.

Seo presented his lover with a three-carat diamond ring thought to be worth around 350 million won ($310,700). The crowd went wild as Epani accepted the public proposal and treated the fans to a passionate kiss.

"No date has been set for the big day, but I can tell you that she was ecstatic about the proposal", a representative from Epani's agency told My Daily on Feb. 1.

Entertainment news Web sites have since speculated that the wedding will take place in March. The couple seems to be wasting little time on romantic niceties, as the engagement comes just one month after they publically confirmed their relationship.

On Dec. 23, Epani's agency said the star had been seeing Seo for the past five months. The couple met in August when they took part in the celebrity drag-racing event "R Stars". One month after becoming acquainted, the two officially started dating.

Epani rose to fame in 2006 after winning a model search contest run by Playboy Korea. The starlet was previously married and has a six-year-old son.

Park Si-hoo is the bad guy

Park Si-hoo put on cold charisma unlike his soft usual image.

In the latest photo shoot with "SURE", Park Si-hoo was dressed in chic and casual fashion making him the cold and charismatic man.

Through an interview he said, "I amazed at the fact that I received the Rookie Award and the Excellence Award 4 years ago and another Excellence Award this year. I think these are steps to becoming a better actor".

In the current movie "I Am The Murderer" Park Si-hoo is a psychopath and serial killer who's killed 11 people and is working with Jeong Jae-yeong. He ate only protein foods like sweet potatoes for two weeks and didn't even drink water 3 days before the swimming scene he'd prepared for.

Ha Ji-won and Lee Seung-gi's first script reading

The MBC drama "The King" had started script reading.

The cast including Ha Ji-won and Lee Seung-gi met at the Ilsam MBC Dream Center and completed their first script reading.

On a phone call with the spokesperson for "The King" on the 27th said, "It was the first time all the cast for the drama "The King" got together in one place and it was fun".

"Producer Lee Jae-gyoo who is known to be gentle and Lee Soon-jae as well as Yoon Yeo-jeong who are known to be strict and well-balanced attended the script reading and was an interesting time. The reading went on for about five hours from 7PM to 11PM".

"The King" is a black comedy about the completing love between North Korean Prince Lee Jae-ha and Special Forces female sergeant Kim Hang-ah, overcoming the prejudice and interference around them during a so-called time of constitutional monarchy.

This movie is an anticipating one with the leading cast of Ha Ji-won who is a fixed box office hit and Lee Seung-gi. "The King" will start shooting on the 31st and start airing on the 14th of March after "The Sun and the Moon".

Kwon Sang-woo finishes work on new action film with Jackie Chan

Hallyu star kwon Sang-woo has finished work on the movie "12 Chinese Zodiac Heads" with Jackie Chan.

The announcement was made yesterday by the actor's agency, which also reported that Kwon had returned to Korea just before Lunar New Year. "Currently, Kwon is taking a well-deserved break and is looking over some movie proposals from China, the United States and other countries", said a representative from the agency.

Kwon jetted all over the world starting in June 2011 to make the Chinese action movie with martial arts superstar Chan, who directs and stars in the movie.

The movie is an action-adventure film based on the adventures of one man (played by Chan) on a treasure hunt to find missing Chinese artifacts that have been scattered around the world. The film is the third installment in the "Armour of God" series, which started in 1987, and cost an estimated 100 billion won ($89,158,347) to produce.

The movie is to open worldwide on Dec. 12.

'Korean hip-pop goes global'

Popular Korean hip-pop girl group 2NE1 was featured in the second-largest weekly news magazine in the U.S. on Jan. 25, under the title of "Korean Hip-pop: K-hop goes global".

In its latest edition, Newsweek showed confidence in the rise of K-hop as a global trend.

The article introduced the four-piece girl group, as having the original R&B soul mixed with hip-hop, and their songs as being astutely tailored for a global audience in the digital age.

Korean American producer of 2NE1, Teddy Park said in the article, "The K-hop genre will be the true crossover hit, with its ties to hip-hop, soul and electronica".

The magazine also forecast that the signs are promising: after a successful debut in Japan in front of 70,000 fans last October they attracted attention in Europe and America. Moreover, a prominent producer and a rapper in America, Will.i.am has already begun working on tracks for 2NE1.

Many K-pop groups such as Girls' Generation or TVXQ have been successful abroad. However the magazine wrote hip-hop groups such as Big Bang and 2NE1 are "getting in on the act". While Big Bang won a World Wide Act award at the MTV Europe Music Awards last June through Internet exposure, MTV lggy crowned 2NE1 the Best New Band in the world.

Some critics still question whether K-pop will ever make waves in mainstream U.S. radio, but the magazine says, "K-hop will lift Asian music out of its "tacky stereotype" and bring it to the same level as Latin and European music on the global scene".

A former Korean rapper and producer, Jae Chong says he is currently working on a Korean-American K-hop guy band Aziatix. The group's eponymous mini-album was placed at No.4 on the U.S. iTunes Top Soul Albums last May. "I want to introduce the next phase of K-hop", he said.

Lee Min-ho appears on "Delightful Talk" in China

Hallyu Star Lee Min-ho appeared on the Chinese TV program "Delightful Talk", which is ranked number one out of all Chinese TV programs. We have videos to show what he did to mesmerize fans.

"Delightful Talk" is a talk show on which only the top stars are cast for in China. Funan Wisung TV gave Lee Min-ho shocking treatment by reprogramming his segment on January 14th into a 'special' and giving him a full 90 minutes of airtime.

The results were natural. 2.6% of all viewers tuned in. This is a top ranking considering the 79 channels in the 29 states of China. This program is also the best rating in the last 2 years of Funan Wisung TV.

Lee Min-ho greeted fans with the dialect of the Jiangxia district. He then stepped over obstacles with his long legs and even let them measure the length of his legs.

He presented the MC with pottery that represents Korea and a New Years card that had the pattern of a Hanbok. He also handed out a Luck Strainer to all of the audience members. It was a special program for Lee Min-ho indeed.

The reactions were unbelievable. The audiences' cheers made it almost impossible to record anything and the MC said, "The audience cheered for 10 minutes at Lee Min-ho's words. I think the program will be over with a few more of his words".

When Lee Min-ho said, "I am having a good time filming in China. I hope we can see more of each other soon" the audiences' disappointed exclamations were a good sight to see.

All this was reflected in the shows ratings. Lee Min-ho's act to get closer to Chinese fans created a synergy effect and resulted in a number one ranking among the whole country.

Kim Soo-hyeon-I to revisit 'Dream High 2'

Actor Kim Soo-hyeon-I will make a cameo appearance on the teen drama "Dream High Season 2". According to a representative from the program, Kim will re-enact the good-bye scene in which he appeared in the drama's first season last year.

The actor will reprise his role as the musical genius Song Sam-dong, whom he played in the "Dream High" prequel.

"Despite his hectic filming for the drama "The Sun and the Moon", Kim has gladly accepted the offer to star in the upcoming drama", said a representative from KBS drama.

The teen drama about a school for aspiring singers and entertainers will air on Jan. 30. The sequel will deal with the worries, conflicts and ambitions of teenage entertainers and will be played on Monday and Tuesday nights.

Meanwhile, Kim is currently busy starring in the hit MBC drama "The Sun and the Moon", which aired on Jan. 4. The period piece is a fictional story set during the Joseon Dynasty concerning the romance of a king and a female shaman. Last week the drama made headlines for reaching first place in viewer ratings just two weeks into its run.

Lee Min-ho and Park Min-yeong break off six-month relationship

Celebrity couple Lee Min-ho and Park Min-yeong have separated after six months of dating.

Yesterday, Lee's agency, King Kong Entertainment, announced to local media that the two have gone their separate ways but will remain good friends.

The pair met on the set of the drama "City Hunter" and became lovers. They admitted they were seeing one another when paparazzi snapped a photo of them on a date in Cheongdam-dong in southern Seoul. But the couple kept a low profile and remained tight-lipped about their relationship.

Speculation about the break-up surfaced as early as last month when the couple made separate appearances at the KBS and SBS drama awards.

The cause of the break-up is thought to be the stars' busy schedules.

After filming "City Hunter", Park moved on to the KBS drama "Glory Jane". Meanwhile, Lee has been carefully perusing possible future projects and making visits to China, where he is immensely popular.

Which Idol Star Owns The Most Expensive Home?

Top stars in Korean entertainment work hard, and earn quite large sums for their hard work. Reports on some of the most successful stars living in the most expensive homes have been revealed in the past. Legendary singer Cho Young-nam has been rumored to be at the top of the list with a villa worth $5.2 million. However, what about the younger generation of idol stars?

No surprise on who boasted the highest price tag on his home: Jang Geun-seok. He's currently one of the hottest Korean entertainment names in Korea and in Japan. He reportedly earned $35.5 million in 2011 along, much of that stemming from his hit drama "You're Beautiful". According to Japanese media, Jang earns about $800,000 per commercial and is likely able to earn up to $90,000 a day from just souvenir purchases.

He lives in a villa in Seoul worth about $3.5 million. He had moved in last October, now enjoying such amenities like a family-sized movie theatre and cafe.

As if that wasn't enough, Jang also owns an $8.8 million building that used to belong to comedian Seo Sae-won and his wife Seo Jung-hee.

Next on the list was triple threat, actor, singer, and MC Lee Seung-gi. Lee reportedly lives in the "Brownstone Legend" building located in Seoul, worth $3.1 million. The complex includes perks of a fitness center, golf range, event venue, Audio Video theatre room, and more.

Lee has worked hard for the sum of $4.4 million from endorsements alone in 2010. He has 11 commercial deals under his belt to date, having earned $7.1 millon from just them until now.

Big Bang's TOP (Choi Seung-hyeon) was third, living in a $2.6 million villa, which he bought last year. The charismatic rapper and actor lives in the same neighborhood as actor Jeong Joon-ho and singer Lee Hyo-lee. The villa is famous for being a "honeymoon" home. TOP's unit consists of 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with some of the finest interior overlooking the Han River.

Following on the list was singer and actor Kim Hyun-joong. He lives in a European-style villa worth about $1.7 to $2.6 million, in the very posh neighborhood of Cheongdam-dong. His home even has a garden located just outside, surrounded by a number of parks.

Kim made the big ticket purchase after his success with concerts, album sales, advertisements, etc. in Japan. He earned $3.5 million after the megahit drama "Boys over Flowers" aired on TV. He was then offered a number of commercial deals. He even has an official character U:ZOOSIN, which sold over 50,000 units, raking in a profit of $1.7 million.

Rounding out the list was the members of the popular group JYJ. JYJ will be the first Korean artist to perform in Chile and Peru, with dates scheduled for this March. They all are owners to very expensive homes.

Kim Junsu lives in a detached townhouse located in the Gyeonggi Province region called Winsle Country. It's separate from another unit which is where his parents reside. He lives near veteran singer Lee Sora and his home is worth $1.5 million.

Micky Yoochun on the other hand lives in a very upscale area called Hannam-dong. He's been successful with his acting endeavors, expected to soon make his comeback acting in "The Rooftop Prince" alongside actress Han Ji-min.

Remaining JYJ member Kim Hero Jae-joong also lives in a lavish home. His penthouse is worth $2.6 million located in Samsung-dong. His pad even has a terrace, spanning about 3,200 square feet.

Winter Fun in Korea

Winter in Korea is far from boring. The scenery turns into a winter wonderland and activities abound.

Here are three activities (and places) I'm fond of:

1) Ice Skating

There are plenty of ice skating rinks and makeshift ones all across the country. If you live in or near Seoul, ice skating is best and cheapest at Seoul Plaza. If you get too cold and overwhelmed by the crowd, walk down to Gwanghwamun Plaza and check out King Sejong and Admiral Yi Museums.

2) Sledding

You can be pulled around...

pushed gently...

or pushed hard down a slope!

Like ice skating rinks, you can sled in many places. My favorite in Seoul is at Ttukseom Hangang Park. There are plenty of activities for both kids and adults. Also, J-Bug Museum is close by which offers beautiful artwork, unique gift items, hot beverages, and great sunset views.

3) ATV on Ice

Riding an ATV on ice is just awesome! I highly recommend trying it at the Pyeongchang Trout Festival. There you can do ice skating, sledding, ice fishing, biking on ice, and many other fun activities.

Whatever you end up trying, don't forget to:

Bundle up!

Have some hot street food!

And take pictures with loved ones!

Nam Gyoo-ri returns to film screens with "Goblin"

Nam Gyoo-ri is set to receive more attention.

Nam Gyoo-ri is the final stages of committing to star in top film "Goblin" (produced by Barunson). "Goblin" will be directed by "Couples" director Jeong Yong-ki and preparations for filming are now underway. In the film, the male and female leads pair up with a goblin and some students to prevent the closing of a rural school that is on the verge of collapse.

On the January 21st broadcast of KBS 2TV's "Entertainment Weekly" covered the "Ha-gyoon Mania" caused by actor Sin Ha-gyoon on his guerilla date.

SHINee breaks another Oricon chart record

SHINee has reached second place, the highest ranking ever achieved by a male overseas artist, on Japan's Oricon weekly DVD chart

The DVD "SHINee The First Concert In Japan: SHINee World", released on Jan. 11, captures performances made by the group at Tokyo's National Yoyogi Gymnasium from December last year. During its first week on sale, the DVD sold more than 29,000 copies.

Since Oricon started ranking DVDs in 1999, the only overseas male artists to reach top positions have been Underworld, a British duo, and the K-pop group 2PM, which made it to fourth place.

SHINee made its debut in Japan last June with the release of the Japanese single "Replay", which set its own record by selling 91,000 copies in one week.

In December, Japanese record label Tower Records named SHINee, along with K-pop newbie B1A4, the best K-pop groups of the year. The decision was based on online voting conducted on the company's Web site and on record sales for each winner.

Song Kang-ho will return with "Howling" as a detective, one of his signature roles that marked his breakthrough in Bong Joon-ho's "Memories of Murder". The actor says that he has brought a more mature characterization to the upcoming film.

"Male actors are often cast as detectives and gangsters, and I don't try to stay away from these parts. But it's already been eight years since Memories of Murder, and my character in Howling is a bit more humane and sensitive. The movie, directed by Yoo Ha ("A Frozen Flower"), is about a veteran officer (Song) who teams up with a young rookie (Lee Na-young) to solve a series of murders involving a mysterious wolfdog. Song noted that Howling takes a step further than most police movies. "Conventional crime dramas show how police investigate a given case and arrest the criminal; Howling does this too but it also enables one to think about the aftermath of this process".

In fact, Yoo decided to direct the film, an adaptation of a Japanese novel by Wasa Nonami, because he was drawn to the drama.

""Howling" is basically a story about marginalized minorities living in the city. The original novel (roughly translated as 'Frozen Canine Tooth') is a psychological drama depicting the thoughts of a female detective who grows sympathetic for a wolfdog. I was intrigued by how this creature is neither wolf nor dog but exhibits both the affability of dogs and the savagery of the wolf", said Yoo. "I hope audiences will be able to look back at the meaning of family and life in general".

While Song has softened up to play his part, his co-star Lee had to toughen up to pull off her first action sequences onscreen. The actress said she was very excited about taking part in the project which involved motorcycle stunts.

"Action is something I've always wanted to do, and I feel there's something really fascinating about it. There have lately been many actresses performing challenging action stunts; I used to think that you could pull it off if you're physically fit and if you could manage to execute sequences smoothly. But I learned a great deal that such scenes involve a lot of mental strength and attention to detail".

Contrary to her delicate image crafted through makeup campaigns, she emphasized her good stamina and how she's open to more heavy action in the future. In fact she found the physical parts relatively easy compared to expressing her character's emotions and speaking police parlance.

Moreover, she wanted to break stereotypes of female cops. "I'm sort of tomboyish in real life... But in the movie I really wanted to challenge the stereotype of female detectives. I didn't want to appear as being particularly androgynous or tough".

The director said Lee's role was both physically and emotionally demanding, and complimented the actress for her effort. "Lee Na-young had to really burn herself out for this movie, which really centered on a female perspective and takes shape from the female cop's lines".

While the film may appear to be a bloody slasher film, Song believes the emotional aspects of the story will better appeal to a female audience.

"There have been a lot of detective movies up to now, but I think this one covers a broad emotional spectrum and leaves a lot of afterthought. It has other elements of entertainment but I think the virtues of the story will really resonate with women in particular".

"Howling", a CJ E&M Pictures release, is slated to open Feb. 9.

Moon Chae-won lonely no more

Actress Moon Chae-won revealed that she wasn't all that popular when she moved from Daegu to Seoul during her teenage years in an exclusive interview with Ilgan Sports.

"I moved to Seoul just in time for middle school. I was so conscious of my country dialect that I refused to talk to anyone for the first year. Naturally I didn't have any friends and I was a loner", the 25-year old said.

Moon mentioned her childhood experiences in light of the recent suicides of young students, who decided to take their own lives after being targeted by bullies at school. She discussed how she was able to overcome social isolation and finally find a social circle.

"I was able to come out of my shell and make friends once I became interested in art. In high school, I was rid of my dialect, and due to my interest in art, I was able to make like-minded friends", she said.

Moon was recently named an honorary prosecutor by the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and rose to fame in various period pieces such as last year's hit drama "The Princess' Man" and the movie "Arrow, The Ultimate Weapon" (2011).

"The Sun and The Moon" Jeong Il-woo and Song Jae-rim

Actor Jeong Il-woo played the role of casting director for new MBC drama "The Sun and the Moon".

There is a character called Woon in the drama who, as a bodyguard, follows Lee Hwon (Kim Soo-hyeon-I) around like a shadow. With his unique appeal, Woon has already gathered several female fans from the original novel and entertainment companies are fighting to get their candidates into this role.

The one person who was greatly involved with the casting of Son Jae-rim was Jeong Il-woo, who takes on the role of Yang Myeon-goon, older brother to Lee Hwon.

Song Jae-rim attended the press release event of the drama on January 2nd saying, "It is said that Jeong Il-woo told the production team that I was right for the role of Woon".

Jeong Il-woo said, "I was happy to hear that he had been cast after me. I think the character suits him and that we can work well together".

Based on an original novel, "The Sun and the Moon" is set in historical Chosun times and follows the love between imaginary king Lee Hwon and exorcist/shaman Wol.

Lee Si-yeong to play tomboy who falls in love

"Wild Romance", a new comic KBS drama, offers a fresh type of romantic pairing _ a scandalous baseball player and his female bodyguard. Yet, even a quick look at the characters reveals that it is too similar to "Coffee Prince", a hit drama from 2007.

Yu Eun-jae, played by actress Lee Si-yeong, is a zealous fan of Blue Seagulls, a baseball team, and despises Park Mu-yeol played by actor Lee Dong-wook, the short stop of the rival team, Red Dreamers. Yu gets hired as Park's body guard to silence a drunken fight between the two that was filmed and became viral online, causing rumors. Claiming that the fight was an exercise in self-defense, their love-hate relationship blossoms.

A judo champion with short hair and a preference for menswear, Yu greatly resembles Go Eun-chan, the heroine of "Coffee Prince" played by actress Yoon Eun-hye. In the romantic drama about a newly opened coffee shop, Go, a tomboy, pretends to be a guy to work at the cafe and falls in love with her rich playboy boss, Choi Han-gyeol played by actor Gong Yoo. The drama was wildly successful, putting both Yoon and Gong on the roadmap to mainstream stardom.

Clearly, Lee's character is eyeing the indescribable popularity of girls-in-disguise concept in dramas that started with "Coffee Prince". Actress Moon Geung-yeong played a gifted artist, who lived as a man to be a state-designated painter in the drama, "Painter of the Wind" (2008). Likewise, Kim Yoon-hee, played by Park Min-yeong, disguises herself as a man to become a court official in "Sungkyungkwan Scandal" (2010).

These non-traditional roles have vaulted the actresses to stardom. Though Yu is not in disguise, her character looks and speaks like Go, yet for creating another sensation like Go, Yu's role conventional, a female helpless in front of love.

"Yu has no dream; she just works to make ends meet and watching baseball is the sole joy in her life, and then she gets to know Park, and starts to support him though she used to hate him. Eventually, she falls for him and love becomes her dream", explained Lee at a press conference held in Guro, Seoul on Monday.

Not surprisingly, her "womanhood" is challenged by Gang Jong-hui, a girlish character played by Jessica from K-pop group Girls' Generation, who also pursues Park.

Such rivalry was depicted in "Coffee Prince" as well as Go struggles against Han Yu-ju, a ladylike artist who tempts Choi.

"Wild Romance" has another disadvantage with the lack of interesting context. In addition to the erotic and mysterious suspense created by cross dresser roles, the above mentioned shows captivated the viewers with interesting subtext of the setting or the professions of the characters, especially "Painter of the Wind" and "Sungkyungkwan Scandal".

Unfortunately, "Wild Romance" is set during a stopover, an interim between baseball seasons when there are no games being played.

More importantly, such overtly asexual female roles can be disadvantageous to an actress as such characters can leave too strong an impression with viewers. For example, many expressed dismay when Yoon started a new drama as a haughty heiress in "My Fair Lady" after "Coffee Prince;" they wanted another Go.

The 30-year-old actress must also use caution in her roles as she surely does not want to be pigeon-holed as an action actress. She recently finished playing a detector with superb martial art skills in "Poseidon", a KBS drama.

In real life, the actress became a boxing champion last March at the women's national amateur championships for rookies; she won in a referee stopped contest (RSC) victory in the 48-kilogram final against Sung So-mi in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province.

Lee first gained exposure through a reality show, "Just Married", as partner to former K-pop group, Shinhwa member Jun Jin. She then gained acclaim in her role in drama "Boys over Flowers" (2009).

"Wild Romance" will air today at 9:55 p.m.

Kim Bum-soo confirms dates for his first-ever U.S. concert

On Jan. 2, singer Kim Bum-soo's agency, Polaris Entertainment, confirmed the dates for Kim's upcoming concerts in the United States.

The "Get Alright Show - I am Kim Bum-soo" kicked off in Korea in August 2011 and Kim performed for audiences in Seoul, Busan, Incheon and other surrounding regions.

The show will continue on overseas at two U.S. locations in Hawaii and Los Angeles. Although the venue for the Hawaii concert has yet to be decided, the 32-year-old solo artists' Los Angeles performance will take place at the Nokia Theater. The venue is a large-scale concert hall that has a seating capacity of 7,000. "This is a tremendous achievement for the singer both at a professional and personal level", Kim's agency said.

The agency also added that since appearing on the singing survival show "I Am a Singer", Kim has been inundated with offers to perform in the United States by production companies there.

During his concert tour in the United States, Kim will sing songs that he showcased on the hit singing survival show as well as songs from his previous albums.

Kim made his debut in 1999 and up until appearing on "I Am a Singer" was relatively unknown due to his appearance, which many regarded as being too unattractive for an entertainer.

Actress Kim Nam-joo to star in KBS 2TV's new weekend drama.

On Jan. 3, KBS announced its decision to have the actress Kim Nam-joo star in the network's upcoming weekend drama, given the working title "You who came covered in ivy". The drama centers on a career-driven woman who finds herself in a difficult relationship with her in-laws upon marrying a doctor.

"Kim's character is a passionate yet professional career woman who never dreamt that she would have to put up with the burden of in-laws", said a KBS representative. The script was written by the Park Ji-eun, the writer behind "My Wife is a Superwoman" (2009) and "Queen of Reversals" (2011), two other works which Kim has starred in.

KBS also added that this is the actress' first role in one of the network's dramas The two previous dramas that Kim featured in were both under MBC. The new weekend drama will start in February as the popular drama "Ojak Brothers" draws to an end.

Kim made her debut in 1994 through the SBS network's talent search. She is also the spouse of actor Kim Seung-woo.

Lee Min-ho, the only actor in his 20s nominated for the SBS Grand Prize

It turns out that Lee Min-ho was the only actor in his twenties that was voted as a candidate for the 2011 SBS Acting Awards through an online vote.

SBS ran an online netizen popularity vote from the 20th to the 31st of December through their official homepage.

Candidates included Lee Min-ho, Lee Yo-won, Lee Dong-wook, Kim Seon-ah, Ji Seong, Choi Kang-hee, Han Seok-Kyu, Soo-ae, Jang Hyeok and Kim Rae-won, who have all done well in SBS dramas over the past year. Lee Min-ho is the only actor among these still in his twenties.

Lee Min-ho was hugely popular for the drama "City Hunter", which ended in July. He was acknowledged for his acting skills and he managed to complete 20 commercials in the past year. He has become very popular not only in Korea but all over Asia.

He was awarded the Best Actor and Special Hallyu Star Award at the Korea Drama Awards in October. Everyone is now curious about what reactions he will elicit among older actors and actresses.

[TALK OF THE TOWN] Hwang Soo-jeong back in spy role

Actress Hwang Soo-jeong is back on the small screen early next month. Since her last appearance in the 2007 drama series "Salt Doll", it's taken four years for Hwang to return to the drama scene. Hwang will play the lead role of a spy dispatched from the North to South Korea to save her son in a four-part KBS drama series that is entitled "For the Sake of Son".

The 39-year-old actress was widely beloved for her role in the period drama series "Heo Jun" back in 1999. After the drama, Hwang enjoyed her status as a top actress but she didn't maintain her stardom. She was involved in a drug scandal in 2001. When it turned out that Hwang injected drugs with her lover, a married man, it tarnished her pure public image. She was sentenced to one year and six months in jail but she was out on bail in 78 days in 2002.

Lee Byeong-Heon to star as King of Joseon

Top Korean star Lee Byeong-Heon is set to play the lead in CJ E&M Pictures' "Masquerade" (working title). Lee's management agency BH Entertainment announced that he is confirmed to star in the historical drama to be directed by Choo Chang-min ("Late Blossom") and written by Hwang Jo-yoon ("Old Boy").

At the moment, Lee is playing the role of Storm Shadow in the Hollywood productionG.I. Joe 2: Retaliation which is shooting in New Orleans. He played the same character in the 2009 film G.I Joe: the Rise of Cobra. His other credits include starring in Kim Ji-woon's "The Good, the Bad, the Weird" and "I Saw the Devil", as well as Park Chan-wook's "JSA - Joint Security Area".

With a hot fan base in Japan, Lee is due to return to Korea and prepare for a Japanese arena tour where he will meet with an estimated 60,000 fans at the end of the year.

Choo previously directed the hit comedy "Mapado" (2004) and the romantic senior citizen drama "Late Blossom" which became a sleeper hit through word of mouth after it was released in February this year.

"Masquerade" is a sort of "The Prince and the Pauper" story where a commoner of the lowest class takes the place of the ruling monarch Gwanghaegun and comes to realize all that the position entails. The Korean title translates as "I Am a/the King of Joseon".

Lee will act in both the roles of the charismatic king and the sympathetic commoner, with a romantic connection with the queen as well.

Formerly, director Kang Woo-seok ("Silmido", "GLove") was reported to be attached to the project but Choo is now set to direct.

The film is due to start shooting early next year with a budget of US$8 million.

Teen Singer IU Ready for Japan Debut

Teenage singer IU is set to debut in Japan after signing a deal with EMI Music Japan, one of the biggest record labels in the country.

The Japanese media spotlighted IU's upcoming debut on Wednesday, reporting that an 18-year-old who broke new ground in K-pop will broaden her musical career to Japan.

The record label has built its reputation on the back of top-notch artists and includes Japan's best female solo artists, such as Utada Hikaru and Shiina Ringo, and Korean idol group SHINee on its books.

"After wrapping up promoting her new album, which is scheduled to be released soon, IU will make her first official debut through a showcase in Tokyo in January next year", the agency said. "Her first single in Japanese will be released in February, and she will continue to work on promoting the album".

IU will release her second full-length album at the end of this month.

"Love Rides the Rain" pre-sells rights to Japan

The upcoming drama "Love Rides the Rain" has already sold its rights to Japan.

As the drama is created by director Yoon Seok-ho who created "Autumn in my Heart" and "Winter Sonata", which were great hits in Japan, and the cast being made up of Jang Geun-seok and Yoona, Japanese Ponication was quick to sign an early contract with "Love Rides the Rain".

[Interview] "Pretty Boy" Jeong Il-woo's keyword is OO

Actor Jeong Il-woo (24) works hard. He returned to acting with tvN drama "Flower Boy Ramyun Shop" right after last May's "49 Days".

Having been evaluated well for his performance as the 'scheduler' in "49 Days", "Flower Boy Ramyun Shop" was a bold attempt. It's a romantic comedy drama, something that he's never tried before.

He plays the role of 19 year-old Cha Chi-soo, the only son of the country's greatest food product company. With nothing to worry about, the handsome, second generation business exec Cha Chi-soo goes around telling girls they're pretty without meaning it and winking at them. Jeong Il-woo pulls it off so well you might think he's actually like that, but he laughs and says it's just a drama.

"I don't wink and tell girls they're pretty at any chance I get, like Cha Chi-soo. Actually, I'm embarrassed just saying the lines. Thankfully, there are special effect sounds in the scenes where I wink so it was fun when I watched it too. I am the kind to look through my script very thoroughly so I studied it and thought of the line "It's me, Cha~"".

Claiming he tried very hard to make the unrealistic Cha Chi-soo as realistic as possible, Jeong Il-woo was already deep into his character. He also was so passionate that he assisted in decorating his own room in the drama. He even brought in his own cologne bottle as props. He has differentiated his character from the common business executive roles thanks to his efforts.

"In the character of Cha Chi-soo, you will find a little bit of the other characters you've seen me play. The characters I've done in other projects are stoted in me, then exposed again through another characters. I think that's what makes my acting different".

Secret Hits #5 On Oricon Chart With First Album

Song Joong-ki plays an idle young man in "Penny Pinchers", which is completely opposite to his previous images. K-Pop Artists To Hold First Concert in South America

Girls' Generation will release an album in the U.S. through a Universal Music Group label. The top Korean girl band will launch a maxi single of their new song "The Boys" in November on Universal's Interscope Records, whose artists include Lady Gaga, Eminem and Black Eyed Peas.

The album containing "The Boys" will be launched simultaneously in the U.S., Europe and Latin America.

Girls' Generation cancelled their planned album release in Korea to better prepare for the U.S. release and refine their global marketing strategy. It will now be released on Oct. 19, and the new song will be unveiled simultaneously around the world on iTunes and other outlets. The music video will be unveiled on SM Entertainment's YouTube channel and Facebook.

"The Boys" is the product of Teddy Riley, one of the world's leading producers who worked with Michael Jackson.

Girls' Generation appear on Oct. 21 on KBS2's "Music Bank".

Two K-pop heartthrobs, Lee Seung-gi, above left, and John Park, are set to release new albums in the coming months.

According to Hook Entertainment, singer-actor Lee will release his fifth album after a two-year hiatus. The entertainment company said in a press release yesterday that Lee's new album will be released online today.

"Love Time", one of the songs on the new album, features the talents of other popular artists. Singer-songwriter Ra.D co-wrote the music for the song "Love Time", for which Lee wrote the lyrics. Actress Han Hyo-joo, who paired up with Lee in the drama series "Shining Inheritance" (2009), also appears to narrate a section of the song.

Although Lee released his last album in September 2009, he has had plenty of other projects to keep him busy. He currently appears as a regular on the hit KBS reality show "1 Night, 2 Days" and is the host of the talk show "Strong Heart".

Lee is also a popular actor. In addition to "Shining Inheritance", he has appeared in many hit drama series including "My Girlfriend is a Gumiho" (2010). These appearances have given him a broad fan base of women ranging in age from their teens to their 50s.

Meanwhile, John Park, the runner-up of the second season of "Super Star K", the Korean version of "American Idol", will release his first solo album early next year, according to Park's agency, Music Farm.

She recently decided to be cast in the new SBS weekend drama "If Tomorrow Comes". She comes back to audiences 7 months after the MBC drama "Flame of Desire". "If Tomorrow Comes" is about the love and conflict between a mother and daughter. Seo Woo takes on the role of kind-hearted college girl Eun-chae, who thinks respecting your parents brings you happiness. The mother role will be played by Ko Doo-sim.

Seo Woo attempts to change her image with "If Tomorrow Comes". She was evaluated as a femme fatale in the dramas "Cinderella's Sister" and "Flame of Desire", but she will expand her acting skills by playing a bright and warm-hearted girl in this one.

Actor Lee Min-ho is shaking up the entire Chinese continent.

He will be departing for China on September 25th to sign a contract with China's Hyundai Motors 'Veloster' and to attend a launching event for the 'Veloster', as well as a press conference. The Veloster launching event is taking place with participation from Chinese locals and a competition to attend it recorded a 1000:1 ratio of applicants-to-seats available in just 3 days.

An official for Chinese Hyundai Motors said, "Because the 'Veloster' was targeted for the younger generation, we asked Lee Min-ho, the hottest celebrity in China yet, to be our model".

Lee Min-ho will also do a real time interview with Chinese fans on September 22nd at 5PM for one hour.

There are requests for visits from other Asian countries. His management said, "We are grateful for the support. He will soon be visiting those places he hasn't been able to, and we will release an official statement when everything is ready". On the other hand, Song Hye-kyo returns to screens with sad movie "A Reason to Live" in October.

This movie is directed by Lee Jeong-hyang, who's back in 9 years. This is a drama that shows confusion and sadness when a documentary producer forgives a 17 year old girl who killed her fiancé but this brings unexpected events.

Song Hye-kyo takes on the role of Da-hye and will leave a deep impression of emotion in on viewers.

In December, Uhm Jung-hwa returns with "Dancing Queen" in which turns into a dancing singer.

This is a fun and impressive drama about a woman who becomes a dancing singer without her city major candidate husband knowing. In the drama, she is a normal housewife but one day she secretly becomes a singer.

Uhm Jung-hwa started dance training after the June movie "Mama" ended. Even though the shoot continues until now, she hasn't stopped training for dancing.

The movie theaters are anticipating the return of the goddess' that represent this country.

Song Ji-hyo hospitalized, recovering with parent nursing

Song Ji-hyo is in the hospital for allergies to Western medicine and is recovering with her parents nursing.

C-Jes Entertainment told Star News on the 20th, "Song Ji-hyo is recovering at the hospital with her parents nursing".

Actor Song Il-gook chose to go general service.

He confirmed a role in the jTBC drama "Fermented Family" which is also well known as director Park Chan-hong and writer Kim Jee-woo's come back project.

Song Il-gook takes on the role of Ki Ho-tae who is blended into the habit of rough talking, not having the ability to plan things and being spontaneous.

Being an orphan, Ho-tae thinks his parents didn't want him but he doesn't hesitate to do anything. He just goes head first into things but unlike his curtness, he is very warm inside.

Song Il-gook starts shooting at the end of September. He said, "I am happy to be able to work with the writer and director I've wanted to work with for years. I usually take a while to read my scenario but I read "Fermented Family" very quickly and made my decision. I have never had a role like Ho-tae before so I look forward to myself acting it out".

Meanwhile, the drama is based in a Korean restaurant famous for its Kimchi. Ho-tae finds a piece of his past from the 'Cheon Ji-in' he sees on TV and spontaneously gets a job working there. This drama is due to be released in December.

Will newly revealed KBS drama "Poseidon" put a stop to the Monday and Tuesday drama ordeal KBS is going through?

"Poseidon" started its voyage on the 19th. Coastal blockbuster, "Poseidon" is a mystery case solving drama with actor Lee Seong-jae, Choi Si-won and actress Lee Si-young as the coastal guards.

It's fancy. It's new. It's intense. The drama drew attention to itself with Jeong-yul's (Lee Seong-jae) tragic past and contrasting present, Seon-woo (Choi Si-won) and Eun-cheol's (U-Know) endless conflicts. The story dealt with heavy subjects such as human trafficking and weapons and smuggling of branded goods but it didn't slack and kept up to the storyline.

The process until Coastal Special Forces ace Seon-woo got chosen to join Jeong-yul's investigation team and the joining of Soo-yoon (Lee Si-yeong) whom he met on the beach coincidentally. The drama had many things to see with the cameo appearance of U-Know and comedian Jeong Joo-ri, presenting laughter.

The bulletin was filled with comments like, "Better than expected", "No chance to be bored", "I thought it might be careless but no way", and more. As it deal with subjects that aren't very friendly to the viewers, it will find a way to seem more familiar from the second episode on.

It is now the time to succeed with stories that have suction force and not fanciness and boldness.

Member of boy band JYJ and actor Micky Yoochun proved how popular he was in Thailand.

He visited Thailand for a fan meeting on September 16th, held thanks to the popularity of the drama "Sungkyunkwan Scandal".

An enormous crowd gathered at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport to see him. 3000 or so fans yelled out his drama name Seon-joon and greeted him.

In the end, officials dispatched a company of policemen and prepared for contingencies, and a good number of press were also there to catch a glimpse of Micky Yoochun.
